Debate Centered Instruction:

Debate centered instruction fosters critical thinking, discourse, and civic education across the curriculum. Democracy is not an accident. A functioning government ‘by and for the people’ requires citizens in the mass information age to have the skills needed to communicate effectively, separate fact from opinion, and reach consensus with their peers on controversial topics. DCI focuses on helping teachers in every content area design lessons that support and develop these essential skills.

This online course is an adaption of the DCI Summer Institute which brought together educators from across the country to collaborate on making debate a fun, productive, and simple way to integrate higher order thinking skills into every classroom. Each module focuses on a different aspect of DCI and includes videos, curriculum ideas, and additional resources.

If you have any questions, would like to speak about DCI, or are interested in bringing a live DCI professional development session to your school, please reach out to us at rhetoricadebate@gmail.com
